CONVERSATION WITH\nPHIL BRONSTEIN OF THE CENTER FOR INVESTIGATIVE
REPORTING\nAT THE JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER OF THE EAST BAY\nThey discuss
“Technology, News and Distraction: What Does it All Mean?”\nat 2014
Mensch Society Lecture on Thursday, Feb. 6\n \n \nDave Pell, author of the
NextDraft daily e-newsletter, and Phil Bronstein, executive chair of the
board for the Center for Investigative Reporting, will discuss
“Technology, News and Distraction: What Does it All Mean?” on Thursday,
Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of the East Bay, 1414
Walnut St., Berkeley.\n \nThe presentation on technology and its impact on
our daily lives is the JCC East Bay’s 2014 Mensch Society Lecture. The
Mensch Society comprises donors to JCC East Bay.\n \nNextDraft is a curated
daily e-mail featuring Pell’s humorous take on the day’s news. A Bay
Area resident, Pell describes himself as “a curation savant. Each morning
I visit about 50 news sites and from that swirling nightmare of information
quicksand, I pluck the top 10 most fascinating items of the day, which I
deliver with a fast, pithy wit.” Pell is the son of Holocaust survivors,
and brings his Jewish upbringing and perspective to his witty and poignant
analysis.\n \nWriter Alex Wright, former director of user experience and
product research at The New York Times, calls NextDraft “smart,
insightful commentary with just the right dose of snark. Day in and day
out, Dave delivers.”\n \nBronstein, before working at the Center for
Investigative Reporting in Berkeley, served as senior ice president and
executive editor of the San Francisco Chronicle and was nominated as a
finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for his work as a reporter.\n \nThe
conversation will be followed by a dessert reception. Tickets for the
evening are $15 general admission and $12 for Mensch Society donors, JCC
East Bay members, seniors and students. To buy tickets, visit
www.jcceastbay.org.\n \nFor more information, contact Andy Muchin at
