DESCRIPTION:Reception Thur Dec 12, 6-9pm; Exhibition December 12 through January 12;
 Panel Jan 7, 7-8:30pm; artists' talk Jan 12, 1-3pm\n\nChoice is a landmark
exhibition about women's reproductive rights. At a time when the erosion of
women's reproductive rights is causing women in some parts of the country
to feel that Roe Vs Wade is a distant history, women artists from all
across the nation interpreted and created artwork to the theme, "choice."
They also give us insight to their artwork through their writings. While
one might think "choice" is just about abortion, the artists and juror
Catharine Clark show us that it encompasses the spectrum of reproductive
rights: if and when to be a mother, the method of contraception and the
termination of pregnancy. It is about celebrating a wanted pregnancy and
weeping over a pregnancy wanted and not fulfilled. It is choosing to
terminate a pregnancy without regret or feeling conflicted with loss,
wishing circumstances were different. The artists tell us Choice is what
each woman must have: the right to decide for herself.\n\nJuror Catharine
Clark, owner and Director of Catharine Clark Gallery in San Francisco
writes, "...choice is an exceedingly complex topic. I think it merits a
thoughtful voice. Artists whose work is approaching the topic with the
depth and complexity the subject demands were chosen for the
exhibit."\n\nExhibition: December 12 through January 12. Panel discussion
on reproductive rights on Jan 7 from 7-8:30 PM, artists' talk on Jan 12
from 1-3 pm.\n\nThe Choice exhibition catalog designed by Kelly Hammargren
and Miwako Nishizawa is available at the gallery during the
exhibition.\n\nChoice is sponsored by the Northern California Women's
Caucus for Art (NCWCA.org).\n\nArc Gallery supports the making of quality
art in all media, provides a nurturing environment for artists to create
their work, builds a community of artists to encourage exploration of art,
provides resources for the professional development of visual artists, and
promotes appreciation of the visual arts in the city of San Francisco.\n
