DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the holidays with more fun and less stuff! Berkeley based Annie
Leonard has become world famous as the writer and star of the film The
Story of Stuff, a fast-paced, fact-filled look at the problems created by
our consumption patterns. This funny cartoon style documentary highlights
connections between environmental and social issues, and calls us together
to create a more sustainable and just world. Come see it! It’ll teach
you something, make you laugh, and just may change the way you look at all
the Stuff in your life. \n\nLeonard’s recently released The Story of
Solutions takes us to the next level. From worker owned cooperatives and
green businesses, to organized sharing and citizen participation, she shows
us how working together we can all be part of the solution. Please join us,
and our special guest Allison Cook from The Story of Stuff Project, for
these two short films and a lively discussion afterward. We’ll brainstorm
ways we can make our lives and holidays more fulfilling with free gifts,
gifts of time, and other earth-friendly alternatives. And we’ll create a
map of our favorite Berkeley worker owned co-ops and green businesses, so
when we do spend our money, we’ll know where to find partners that are
helping the planet. \n\nWe’ll also be joined by Rachel Knudson from
Sticky Art Lab on University Avenue, who’ll tell us a little about this
innovative new center for art and creative reuse, sustainable skills and
community building. Rachel will bring in samples of projects and crafts for
kids and adults that are created at the lab. Please bring your craft ideas
to share too! Light and local seasonal refreshments will be served.
