DESCRIPTION:Going Beyond the Bars: \nThe Controversial Proposed New SF Prison\nTuesday,
November 19, 1-3 PM\nFireside Room, Unitarian Center\n1187 Franklin St. (at
 Geary, #38 bus)\nEveryone welcome, Wheelchairs OK\nBusiness/Social from
12:30-1:00 PM\n\nSherriff Ross Mirkarimi insist that decrepit SF jails need
a $632 million rebuild, not to provide more beds, but to provide space for
services like family visitation, but many prison justice advocates
disagree, saying that while the Hall of Justice jails are decrepit, the
City uses only 60% of its available beds, and more importantly, 70-80% are
there awaiting trial, a population disproportionately poor and minority
without resources to make bail.\n\nJoin us as representatives from the
Sheriff’s office and Californians United for a Responsible Budget, which
seeks to reverse mass incarceration, debate the best way forward for prison
 and restorative justice.\n
