DESCRIPTION:Five years ago, the FMLN party became the first progressive government in
El Salvador’s history. The FMLN has instituted free school supplies and
meals, a national adult literacy program, price reduction of medicine, and
legislation promoting equality for women. All of these gains are currently
under threat with the U.S. backed right wing oppressive party in El
Salvador trying to take control.\nCome learn about what is at stake in the
February 2014 elections.\nGuest Speaker: Francisca Iraheta Romero, who is a
school principal and union organizer with ANDES 21 de Junio, the National
Association of Salvadorian Educators, the first teachers’ union in El
Salvador. ANDES members suffered tremendous repression during El
Salvador’s civil war, because teachers spoke out against the military
dictatorship. Today, ANDES works to implement peace-centered approaches to
education, and struggles against privatization.\nMonday, November 11\n6
