DESCRIPTION:In Part I of this series, we began to explore the economic impact of the
tech boom in the Bay Area in context of the national economic recovery of
the Great Recession. As the 1% continue to reap record breaking profits,
the working class continues to face austerity measures. In the Bay Area,
this has manifested in tax breaks for tech companies and the growing
inequality between the rich and the working class. Rents are on the rise
and its becoming much more difficult to live in San Francisco which is
causing a ripple effect across the Bay Area.\n\nIn Part II, we continue to
analyze the impact of the tech boom where we’ll take a look at how the
working class and communities of color are being affected. Also, from the
foreclosure defenders in the Bay View to the Lee family fighting their
Ellis Act eviction, we’ll also discuss ways that these communities are
fighting against the hyper-gentrification of San Francisco.
\n\nSpeakers\nMichael Sanchez – Member of the ISO and student activist at
SFSU. Formerly involved with Occupy Portland and currently involved in
housing activism. \n\nZack Aslanian Williams – Member of the ISO and
recently graduated from UC Berkeley where he was involved in student
activism around the budget cuts. He’s currently involved in housing
activism.\n\nHosted by the International Socialist Organization\n
