DESCRIPTION:Occupy Forum continues. . .\nMonday, October 28th 6 - 9 pm at Global
Exchange\n\nInformation, discussion & community! Monday Night
Forum!!\n\nOccupy Forum is an opportunity for open and respectful dialogue
on all sides of these critically important issues!\n\nOccupy Forum
 presents\nSchooling for Oppression/Education for Freedom\n\nHave you ever
found yourself wondering why people vote against their own best interest?
Why more folks aren't outraged about the state of our world? Why real
political discourse is absent from our culture? Could it be something that
we learned in school? What are you actually supporting if you say you
support public education? A critical look at the real lessons of compulsory
schooling sheds some light on these questions. Join us to hear about the
history of school in America# from the establishment of the English
colonies to the present*, and to explore some alternatives. Anne Donjacour,
a regular Forum participant, autodidact, and homeschooling parent will make
a case that early 20th century industrialists engineered the system of
forced schooling that we have today. This system of schooling has created a
docile population of workers and consumers who have traded their
independent thinking and liberty for a fossil fuel-driven materialist
society. Alternatives to compulsion schooling exist. A panel of teens and
adults from San Francisco Homeschoolers will talk about the reasons that
they opted out of the school system and how this decision has affected
their lives and their role in the community.\n\n\n\n#Based on John Taylor
Gatto's An Underground History of American Education\n\n*a caveat and
apology: this presentation will be focusing on the European colonizers of
the continent and omitting Native ways of education due to the ignorance of
the presenter, and is not a reflection of the importance of indigenous ways
of learning and teaching.\n\n"There is no school equal to a decent home and
no teacher equal to a virtuous parent"\nMahatma Gandhi\n\n\nTime will be
allotted for Q&A, discussion and announcements.\n\nDonations to Occupy
Forum to cover costs are encouraged; no one turned away!\n\n\n
