DESCRIPTION:Big Oil is building a web of oil pipelines and railways throughout 
 the\nMidwest. Keystone XL, Enbridge and other transportation infrastructure 
 is\nspringing up throughout the region along with a patchwork of 
 refineries.\nThis infrastructure will have a devastating impact on 
 communities,\neco-systems and the climate. Exxon’s Pegasus pipeline 
 spilled thousands of\ngallons of tar sands crude in a Northern Arkansas 
 community in March. The\ntragic oil train derailment and explosion, 
 carrying Bakken oil shale, in\nLac-Megantic, Quebec destroyed the center of 
 the small Canadian town and\nkilled an estimated 47 people. A recent report 
 suggests that Keystone XL\nwill expand the growth of Canada's oil sands by 
 36% leading to a boost in\ncarbon emissions. Climatologist James Hanson has 
 called the Keystone XL\npipeline "game over" for the climate.\n\nSince 
 2012, a fierce resistance to the development of oil pipelines and\nother 
 infrastructure has sprung up in the Midwest and Texas. Texas' Tar\nSands 
 Blockade fought TransCanada's Keystone XL project in the woods and\ntrees 
 of East Texas. The Great Plains Tar Sands Resistance continued the\nwork in 
 Oklahoma. Further north, members of the Lakota nation have\nprepared for 
 action in South Dakota, while groups in Kansas and Nebraska\nalso organize 
 to resist Enbridge and Keystone XL's northern leg. In\nMichigan, even more 
 action has taken place against tar sands development.\n\nThe frontlines 
 against these pipelines are being held by frontline\ncommunities, 
 Indigenous communities and informal networks for direct\naction activists.
