DESCRIPTION:Hospitality House’s Community Arts Program (CAP) is pleased to invite you
to the group exhibition Abstraction; featuring artworks created by
Tenderloin community artists utilizing the free-of-charge fine arts studio
and gallery housed at 1009 Market Street at 6th Street.\n\nAbstraction
indicates a departure from reality. This escape from accurate
representation can be only slight, or it can be partial, or it can be
complete. Even though any artworks distilled from the natural world for
expressive purposes can be called abstract; artwork which derives from, but
does not imitate a recognizable subject is called “nonobjective
abstraction.”” According to Ivan Vera, CAP program manager this is the
perspective Abstraction will focus on. “This show will feature works
unconcerned with the literal depiction of things from the visible
world,”” he said. “Our artists have created a collection of wonderful
pieces that fall well outside of anything recognizable or
conventional.””\n\nArtist participating are: James Scoville, Jeff
Roysdon, Matt O’Neill, Charles Blackwell, Robert Miklos, Sylvester Guard
Jr., Chris Cook, Jason Rivers, Michael Covington, Courtney Raye, Shannon
