 desalination plant proposed to be built here on the West Side of Santa 
 Cruz, with pumping station sites along West Cliff Drive.\n \nFun 
 facts:\n\n*Once the proposed desalination plant is online, Westside 
 residents will be drinking the desalinated water while the fresh water we 
 drink today will be pumped to Soquel. \n\n*The desalination plant project 
 is estimated to cost at least $130 to $300 million to build with no mention 
 of the cost required to maintain.\n \n*Santa Cruz county residents will pay 
 for this increased cost of water with higher water bills and higher taxes.  
 We will also pay with increased air and noise pollution. \n\n*Many local 
 and national experts think there are viable, less expensive and more 
 environmentally safe alternatives to increase our water supply.\n \nJoin us 
 at our home on August 17.  \n\nBring a chair if you want to sit.\n\nCookies
