DESCRIPTION:Suds, Snacks, & Socialism at the Starry Plough\n3101 Shattuck Avenue at
Prince Street\n2 blocks from Ashby BART in
Berkeley\n•••••••••\nThe Alameda County Peace and Freedom
Party and Movement presents\n\nThe Climate Debate\nA Socialist
Perspective\n\nThe Energy corporations and their politicians have hijacked
the climate solutions debate, while major environmental organizations
legitimize the whole show. They focus on alternative technologies —
“Green energy (bio-fuels),” “clean coal,” ”safe” nuclear power,
even wind and solar development — and which portion of their portfolio
will receive the latest and greatest public subsidies. \nWe need to promote
a program now to (1) raise conservation as the key and immediate demand (2)
raise the environmental consequences of the US wars of aggression (3)
forget about arguing with the Neanderthals about climate realities, but
focus on enacting real climate solutions; and (4) work to unite rather than
counterpose the jobs vs. environment conundrum.\n\nConservation biologist
and member of the State Central Committee of the Peace and Freedom Party
Roger Harris will make a PowerPoint presentation on the basic science
involved in climate change and raise some political questions on how to
respond to the challenge. Please join us for a robust
 discussion.\n\nSaturday, Sept. 7, 2013 • 2pm-4:30pm\nAt the Starry Plough
Pub\n3101 Shattuck Avenue, at Prince Street in Berkeley\n\nFREE! (But
please buy food & drink at the Pub.) FREE!\n\nThis is part of our
on-going Socialist Forum Series on the first Saturday of every month from
2-4:30 pm. The featured panel will start promptly at 2:30 pm and the forum
will end by 4:30 pm, but folks can stay and talk as long as you like.
