third week in a row. Let's keep the momentum going. Let's BUILD a NEW
Oakland ...By, For and ABOUT the PEOPLE!!!! with cultural resistance in the
plaza!\n\nA town plaza is a central meeting place for the people of the
community. OG Plaza is our town center, our neutral meeting place for free
speech and public dialogue. it was the epicenter of a bay area youth
movement in the '90s were hundreds of thousands of youth and their
supporters closed down public schools to open freedom schools; halted the
construction of new juvenile detention centers; interrupted major
corporations profit flow. it was the epicenter of the largest uprising in
response to police terrorism in the history of the United States during the
days of rage around Oscar grant's murder. it became the epicenter for
occupy Oakland.\n\nAnd we continue to gather there to continue the momentum
of resistance that is OAKLAND.\n\nIn this spirit, we have committed to
being in the Plaza EVERY Friday in the month of Black August and every
First Friday of the month there after in the name of culture as a weapn and
art as resistance!\n\nTHIS IS NOT OCCUPY! THIS IS OAKLAND!\n\n- a city with
a long history of cultural resistance - be it the pachunga wars of the
1940s, or the black panther songs and posters, or the philippino political
theater troupes over the decades, or the native american cultural
gatherings, or the era of political hip hop, or multiethnic cultural worker
coalitions, or black and brown muralist collaborations, or graph krus, or
political poster makers...the list goes on and on and on. we are a city
that has always understood and employed arts and culture in the forefront
of justice.\n\nIf you are a visual or performance artist and would like to
