DESCRIPTION:The Springfield Community Grange and the Watsonville Film Festival present
a night of documentary films produced in the Social Documentation
Master’s Program at UC Santa Cruz. The free screening brings together
four short films under the name of “Food, Farms and Family” as the
documentaries share common themes of food justice, migration and families,
communities and empowerment, and working towards a sustainable future.
\n\n“Growing People” by Dana Forsberg profiles three sisters
reconnecting to their heritage and building community on an organic farm in
Hawaii.\n\n“Guajiros” by Kati Greaney follows two young Haitian
agronomists as they travel around Cuba learning about sustainable
agriculture. \n\n“Lonche” by Claire Weissbluth, tells a tale of two
taco trucks (shot locally in the Pajaro Valley) showing what it takes to
feed a hungry workforce. \n\n“Vida Diferida [Life, Deferred]” by Brenda
Avila-Hanna is a coming-of-age story of an undocumented teenager in New
Mexico. \n\nTacos, tortas and burritos will be available from J&S Catering,
a local taco truck featured in one of the films, as well as other
refreshments. \n\nThe screening takes place on July 26 at 7 pm at the
Springfield Grange, located at the corner of Werner and Hall roads in
Pajaro. All films are bilingual. \n\n
