DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nTHE GREAT TURNING: FIVE CONSIDERATIONS\nPresentation and Discussion
with Greg Jan\n\nBuddhist ecophilosopher Joanna Macy calls the ecological
shift that’s currently underway “The Great Turning.” After we
briefly discuss 3 dimensions of the Great Turning that Macy has identified,
we’ll explore other topics related to the emergence of the Great Turning
 — these 5 topics in particular:\n\n1 — Maturity (from humanity as an
adolescent\n to humanity as an adult)\n\n2 — Humility and Human
Limitations (illusions of progress\n and inherent human flaws)\n\n3 —
Happiness (vs. economic growth — or “need vs. greed”)\n\n4 —
Grassroots Democracy (from prehistoric tribalism\n to New England town
meetings, and beyond)\n\n5 — Love (love as an orientation of character,\n
love of all human beings, the Golden Rule, and more)\n\nFor inspiration,
Greg will bring short excerpts from some of the following books which he
will hand out for us to read:\n\nActive Hope and World as Lover, World as
Self, by Joanna Macy;\nAwakening Earth and Promise Ahead by Duane
Elgin;\nThe Great Turning by David Korten;\nCome Home, America by William
Greider;\nWaking the Global Heart by Anodea Judith;\nNature and the Human
Soul by Bill Plotkin;\nI Don’t Believe In Atheists by Chris
Hedges;\nEnough Is Enough by Rob Dietz and Dan O’Neill;\nTechno-Fix by
Michael and Joyce Huesemann;\nThe Spirit Level by Richard Wilkinson and
Kate Pickett;\nThe Art of Loving and The Sane Society by Erich Fromm;\nThe
Democracy Project by David Graeber;\nThe Next American Revolution by Grace
Lee Boggs;\nAll About Love by Bell Hooks.\n\nHumanist Hall is wheelchair
accessible around the corner at 411 28th Street\n\n$5 donations are
 expected\n\n\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2013/07/12/18739737.php
