DESCRIPTION:Join Amazon Watch, the True Cost of Chevron Coalition and a growing network
of human rights advocates, environmentalists, and front-line communities
(see list of partners below) at a protest outside of Chevron's annual
shareholder meeting.\n\nThe annual meeting, held at Chevron's global
headquarters, is a rare and significant opportunity to refocus public
attention on some of the terribly harmful human and environmental abuses of
Chevron nationally and internationally. CEO John S. Watson will be present
as well as other top executives. \n\nIn opposition, Servio Curipoma, a
cacao farmer from the Ecuadorian Amazon, will also be present to demand
justice from ChevronTexaco responsible for damages done while drilling in
Ecuador from 1964-1990. Servio lost both his parents and his sister-in-law
to cancer that doctors attributed to drinking water contaminated by toxic
crude. For atrocities such as this, an Ecuadorian court as ordered Chevron
to pay 19 billion in reparations to Amazonian residents. Chevron no longer
have assets in Ecuador, and CEO John Watson refuses to pay. \n\nThe public
rally begins at 7:30. People will be arriving by airplane carpool, public
transportation, bike, and their own two feet from Richmond to the
Ecuadorian Amazon. Bring visuals, your voice, and any other multimedia.
\n\nWe gather at 7:30am and will hold a demonstration till 11:30am.\n
