DESCRIPTION:Let us gather to support dozens of courageous ex-workers of the DoBake
factory, fired through an I-9 audit or "silent raid," but now refusing to
go quietly. This will be their first press conference since the silent
raid.\n\nDobake Bakery Inc supplies major clients including the Oakland
Unified School District, 7-Eleven, Food Max, Grocery Outlet, and Safeway.
The stand these workers take is a stand for undocumented workers throughout
California and the United States — used, abused, exploited and deported.
This is the root of any true "immigration reform": everyday people
organizing to stand up to the assaults of employers and their government
 enablers.\n\nDobake Bakeries Inc\n810 81st Ave, Oakland, California
94621-2510 \nApril 29th Monday at 11:00am\n\nVictims of Silent Ice Raids
under the Governments Unsecure communities lets stand in solidarity with
our Hermanos y Hermanas.\n\n\nTHE STORY:\n\nWhen DoBake industrial bakery
suddenly fired 125 workers through an I-9 audit, perhaps they were eager to
rid themselves of a troublesome element that could interfere with profits.
Some workers who had toiled in the factory for 10, 15, or even 20 years
were starting to ask for better wages and conditions. On the subject of the
I-9 audit, the union that was supposed to represent the workers didn't make
a peep: didn't even warn the workers that the firings were coming. When 50
workers pressed the union reps on why they didn't at least call a meeting,
the response was: "Each worker's situation is different."\n\nIn abrupt
joblessness, the workers seem to have found a certain commonality. Also,
too, in the opportunity to take a stand and fight back: in dignity and
resistance.\n\nA RECORD HIGH IN SILENT RAIDS NATIONALLY:\n\nThe former
DoBake workers are not alone in their experience: far from it. In 2012 The
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”) hit a record high of
I-9 audits: more than 3,000. DoBake workers are joined by former workers of
Berkeley Pacific Steel, who were also fired by the hundreds after their
union successfully went on strike for better benefits. Fights like the
DoBake fight are about people's basic needs of jobs and dignity, but they
are also about a larger movement around immigrant rights (or lack thereof)
and hyper-exploitation in this country.\n\nTHE FIRST PUBLIC ACTION:\n\nCome
join the ex-workers of DoBake for a special press conference, on the very
same day that their spineless union reps, of BTCGM Local 125, will begin
contract negotiations with the company. The workers and community will join
together to remind the company *and* the union that this injustice will not
 be swept under the rug.\n\n\n
