the Law: \nHigh Crimes of International Financiers\nand the Neoliberal
Connection\n\nwith Jane Smith and Niels Hahn\n
\nToday, we find ourselves in a world where
financiers seem to be above justice. \n\nOccupy Bay Area United (OBAU)
member Jane Smith will be examining in depth three financial situations:
Goldman Sachs vs. Overstock.com, theft from accounts at MFGlobal, and the
most recent confiscation from accounts in Cyprus.\n \nJane Smith has been
an Occupy activist for over a year with the Ideological Liberation Working
Group (ILWG), with a focus on Wall Street. She is trained in mathematics
and economics, and and can help with education efforts concerning finance
and banking. \n\nAs the current economic crisis deepens, tensions between
working people and the wealthy are increasing. Academics, politicians, and
civil society groups need to focus on the root causes of the crisis, in
order to find solutions to bring about a more sustainable economic system.
\n \nNiels Hahn will provide an introduction to neoliberalism. which some
define as a political and economic system that concentrates power and
wealth in the hands of a relatively small elite. He will provide
suggestions on what he believes the Occupy Movement can do to promote a
peaceful transition to a new economic order.\n \nNiels is convening and
teaching courses on war, conflict, and development at the University of
London with particular focus on international political economy and class
struggle. He has previously worked as a non-medical coordinator for
Medecines Sans Frontiers/Doctors without Borders (MSF) in countries such as
Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Liberia, Somalia, and Sudan/Darfur.\n\n Time will be
allotted for Q&A, discussion and announcements.\nTonight, we will save time
to talk about affinity groups for upcoming actions. \n2017 Mission at 16th
Street, 2nd Floor \n\n(To be buzzed in, wait for screen prompts, then press
200)\n\nDonations to OccupyForum to cover costs are encouraged; no one
 turned away!\n\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2013/04/14/18735185.php
