DESCRIPTION:Catch the buzz and swarm on over to the School Farm for a busy day of
learning and sharing all about bees and the sweet, sweet gifts they offer.
Besides learning the basics of urban beekeeping with local expert, Karen
Peteros, we'll also have permaculture designer Fred Bove show how to
encourage native bees and other important pollinators into your garden with
native and climate appropriate plants as well as other exciting pollinator
activities for kids! We'll also have musical guests from SOTA performing
during lunch - come on down and support them!\n\nBakers Alley is also a
potluck so bring a dish or dough to bake or share, toppings for pizza, and
if you got em' your own utensils to keep this a zero waste event.\n\n11am
 – Fire up oven, morning refreshments courtesy of Arizmendi Bakery, and
general farm work.\n\n12pm – Karen Peteros will talk about the various
things to consider before deciding to take up beekeeping in an urban
environment, about the life cycle of individual honey bees and the colony,
and answer questions about beekeeping. She’ll have an observation hive of
live honey bees which will give us the opportunity to view some of what
goes on inside a hive. She also will give us a tasting of honeys produced
by Bee-Cause hives in various San Francisco neighborhoods.\n\n1pm – Break
for oven fired pizza, bring your own toppings & let’s make some honey
topped pizzas! We're also proud to have musical guests Mayya Feygina and
HarryTrump - students from the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts performing
their latest songs and serenading us during lunch!\n\n2pm – Fred Bove
will talk about creating habitat for both honey bees and native bees,
seasonal planting plans for providing habitat, pollen and nectar and how
bees and the environment are connected. Then we’ll go on a bee hunt.
We’ll have bee catching' plastic bags and magnifiers for us to safely
catch , identify and release a diversity of bee species in the garden. Be
sure to bring the kids!\n\nAs always, the ovens will be blazing and we’ll
provide the dough so bring some pizza toppings, or some other local,
seasonal fare to share and compare at our ultra-local potluck. Bring your
own utensils if you got em, and musical instruments, parlor tricks and
special talents are always welcome too.\n\nThe School Farm is located at
