DESCRIPTION:The Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA) works to
build ethical international solidarity with indigenous civil and
environmental rights activists. The need for ethical solidarity is critical
following the recent death and kidnappings of indigenous environmental
activists challenging Tahoe Resources, a U.S. based corporation. Jennifer
Ristau's talk will explore how Guatemala's history of genocide and
environmental degradation are intertwined and how to be an effective ally.
The film Granito: How to Nail a Dictator goes into detail about some of the
genocide survivors NISGUA accompanies.\n\nThe event, co-sponsored by the
Social Justice Committee, benefits the Guatemala accompaniment program,
which relies on community donations. More events and information at
 http://jenneristau.wix.com/solidarity\n\nSuggested donation $8. No one
turned away. \nWheelchair accessible.\n\nFor occasional email notices of
peace/eco/social justice alerts and related events at BFUU, send any email
 to:\nbfuusjev-subscribe@lists.riseup.net\n\nFor weekly notices of BFUU
 services etc. go to:\nwww.bfuu.org/signup.html\n\n
