DESCRIPTION:Biology, like most other sciences, is used to serve the interests of the
corporations. In addition to not researching areas that could be useful to
humanity, it presents us with a view of ourselves as being limited and
determined by our biology. This use of science stands as an obstacle to
humanity. It limits us, encouraging us to accept things as they are.\n\nBut
biology can allow us to more fully understand the living world around us,
what is being done to it and us. We can begin to really explore who we ARE,
and what is possible for us.\n\nDr. Ignacio Chapela, Associate Professor of
Microbial Ecology at UC Berkeley asks, “What ARE the alternatives to the
limited approach often placed on science?”\n\nDr. Chapela has been
studying the impact of genetically modified plants and the misuse of
science and its impact on our planet. Join us for an interesting
discussion.\n\nFriday, April 5\n7pm, doors open at 6:30pm\nNiebyl Proctor
 Library, 6501 Telegraph Ave, Oakland\n$3 donation requested\n
