DESCRIPTION:Alison Hope Alkon, a sociology professor at University of the Pacific in
Stockton, will facilitate a conversation about questions of "food justice,"
including what injustices the movement seeks to address, what kind of work
it involves, and who gets to frame how this movement should look, in
addition to a discussion of her own research. Alison is the editor of the
book Cultivating Food Justice, which is a collection of essays used in many
college classrooms to introduce students to thinking about how food systems
intersect with inequalities of race and class. She's also the author of the
book Black, White and Green, which examines two farmers markets—one in
West Oakland and the other in North Berkeley—to explore the possibilities
food activism can hold for social, racial and environmental justice. Come
join her for a conversation about the promises and pitfalls of food justice
 activism.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2013/03/11/18733414.php
