DESCRIPTION:IN GLORIOUS B&W!!\n12/09 - Greed (1924) 8mm/Musical Accompaniment\nThe
sudden fortune won from a lottery fans such destructive greed that it ruins
the lives of the three people involved. The film received mostly bad
reviews from critics when first released. The trade paper Harrison's Report
said that "If a contest were to be held to determine which has been the
filthiest, vilest, most putrid picture in the history of the motion picture
business, I am sure that Greed would win."\n\nOriginally over eight hours
long, Greed was ultimately edited against Stroheim's wishes to about
two-and-a-half hours, and the full-length version is a lost film. In 1952
Sight and Sound magazine published its first list of the "10 Greatest Films
ever made". Greed was tied for 7th place on that list. In 1962 it was tied
for 4th on the same list. \n\nIn 1991 Greed was selected for preservation
in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as
being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically
significant".\n\nDirector: Erich von Stroheim\nWriters: June Mathis (screen
adaptation and scenario), Erich von Stroheim (screen adaptation and
scenario)\nStars: Gibson Gowland, Zasu Pitts and Jean Hersholt\n\n\nALL
