DESCRIPTION:The online magazine Lipstick and Politics announces its upcoming event,
"Exploring the Connection: Politics, Gender and Civic Participation." The
event, which will be held on October 16, 2012, will present a conversation
between California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, Eventbrite Co-founder
Julia Hart and Watermark CEO Marilyn Nagel. It will be moderated by Mira
Veda, founder and CEO of Lipstick and Politics, and followed by a question
and answer session.\n \nThe purpose of the event is to explore how
political participation by both men and women shapes the lives of ordinary
Americans. It will explore the interactions between gender and
participation in the political sphere. Issues discussed will include topics
such as the social consequences of the gender gap in civic participation
and the truth behind the belief that men and women think differently in
public office and business.\n \nWith the 2012 presidential elections around
the corner, these questions are particularly salient, Veda said. In an
election year inwhich topics such as women's health have been hotly
debated, a space to discuss the role of gender in the political arena and
public life is necessary, said Veda.\n \nBy bringing together male and
female representatives from the fields of public service and business, the
events strives to present a range of perspectives on the ways in which
gender impacts and is impacted by civic participation.\n \n
