DESCRIPTION:Film and Discussion With a New Perspective on North Korea\nThe situation
regarding North Korea has been described mostly from a geopolitical
standpoint, in which terms such as polarizing, dauntingly complex, and a
political nightmare often come to mind. The news about this shadowy nation
mostly relates to political and security issues, the nature of which create
isolation from the global community. To counter the limited information
coming from the mass media, an organization called LiNK (Liberty in North
Korea) is working to re-focus the conversation on the North Korean people
instead, by bringing a new level of attention to their stories.\n\nThrough
its Shift campaign - toward "shifting" the view of North Korea from its
politics to its people - LiNK runs national tours, produces media, and puts
on events that spread awareness about the struggles and hopes of North
Koreans. PASMC will host one of these events on Saturday, October 20, 7 PM
at the Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo, 300 E. Santa Inez Avenue (at
Ellsworth) in San Mateo.\n\nMichelle Sham will lead a group of three
California-based "Shift Nomads" (as the young traveling presenters call
themselves) who will begin with an overview of the campaign. They will next
present a 50-minute documentary film, "The People's Crisis", and a shorter
video about the campaign. The evening will conclude with a discussion about
the film, the campaign, LiNK's programs, and how people can get
involved.\n\nLiNK is a full-time grassroots organization in North America
devoted to the North Korean human rights and humanitarian crises. LiNK's
global movement seeks to raise awareness of these crises and provides a way
for concerned citizens to take part in bringing about effective change to
help the North Korean people. LiNK is also developing people-focused
strategies with the potential to promote change inside North Korea for the
long term.\nDon't miss this unique take on North Korea. The UU is
 wheelchair accessible.\n
