Weapons Station for 25th\nAnniversary\nJoin Nuremberg Actions, S. Brian
Willson, Holley Rauen, David Hartsough,\nDaniel Ellsberg and others at the
tracks of the Concord Naval Weapons\nStation this Saturday, September 1st
from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the 25th\nAnniversary of the vigil at the
tracks: "Remembering Nuremberg Actions".\n\nIn the summer of 1987, a small
group of peace activists and veterans who had\ncompleted a fast at the
nation's capital the previous fall, formed Nuremberg\nActions. They began a
vigil outside of the Concord Naval Weapons Station\nannouncing their intent
to begin blocking weapons trucks and trains on\nSeptember 1st in a
nonviolent protest against weapons shipments to Central\nAmerica. On that
day, after clergy formally notified the base that Americans\nwould be
sitting on the tracks in a non-violent blockade, Vietnam veteran S.\nBrian
Willson was run down and nearly killed by a US Navy Munitions train.\nThe
others suffered various injuries, but Brian lost both of his legs.\n\nA
court order upheld Nuremberg Actions' right to maintain a 24 hour vigil
at\nthe site where Brian was attacked. For three years the community
maintained\nthe site and blocked every weapons train and truck as they
moved towards\nships to be loaded for Central America. The intentional
community of 20 to\n30 people hosted over a thousand Northern California
activists who joined in\nthe protest weekly or monthly, and an estimated
100,000 visitors from every\ncorner of the nation, and from around the
world in those three years. The\nNuremberg community will return to
remember that fateful day, honor heroes\nwho have passed, and recommit to
peace and social justice.\n\nWhen asked to reflect on that day 25 years ago
and what it means today Brian\nresponded, "Those who control the present
control the past, and those who\ncontrol the past control the future. As
memory is obliterated, people\npossess no frame of reference for assessing
present policies. Thus, imperial\nhistory repeats itself over and over.
Criminal policy? Why, not us.\nPreserving memories such as the crime at
Concord 25 years ago reminds us of\nthe importance of critical thinking and
disobedience to state lawlessness."\n\nDIRECTIONS: I-680N to CA-242N toward
Pittsburg. Exit Port Chicago Hwy/CA-4 W\n3B, toward Richmond; Take the Port
Chicago Hwy North exit on the left. Go\nNorth approx. 1 mile to CNWS and
