\n\nIbrahim Moss will review Michelle Alexander's “New Jim Crow”, which
raises the question of "societal permits" that allow slavery to persist in
the US to these times. These "permits" are played out on defenseless
populations: the poor and politically weak minorities. They may also
manifest themselves in a broader context of economic exploitation, racism,
sexism, and other things.\n\nUrszula Wislanka, supporter of last year's
Pelican Bay Hunger Strike among prisoners which drew attention to solitary
confinement in California, will speak on the prisoner's fight to hold onto
their humanity in the midst of the most inhuman environment yet designed.\n
