 for Non-Violence \n\nThanks to persistent pressure by Santa Cruz county 
 residents and community \nleaders who care about immigration justice, 
 Sheriff Wowack has promised to \nstop detaining non-criminals for 
 deportation in our county jail. He has \nmade this promise directly to 
 Latino Affairs Commission and to the Board of \nSupervisors three times 
 since December 2011. \n\nUnanimously, the response he received to this 
 promise was disappointment \nthat he would not go further to also stop 
 detaining minor offenders for \ndeportation, but appreciation that he was 
 at least prepared to take this \nstep. \n\nSo we are all surprised to learn 
 that today, nearly 8 months later, he has \nstill failed to implement his 
 promise to stop detaining non-criminals for \ndeportation. \n\n*That is why 
 the Immigration Action Group has decided to call for this \ncommunity 
 meeting.* We will discuss whether any hope remains for dialogue \nwith 
 Sheriff Wowack, and what if any further action we should take in light \nof 
 his broken promises. \n\nPlease circulate this announcement to your members
