DESCRIPTION:Trying to save money, reduce your food miles, and be more connected to your 
 foodshed? Consider raising an Araucana hen with their easter egg like blue 
 eggs, or an Indian Runner duck with their unmistakable wine bottle shape. 
 Both breeds, and many others, lay over 200 eggs per year and can provide 
 pest control, helpful cultivation, and a wonderful fertilizer or compost 
 addition.  Maybe you've got a little more room in your yard and a hankering 
 for fresh, wholesome milk or cheese? Consider taking on a new kid - a 
 Nigerian dwarf goat kid that is. Come learn about the difference between 
 raising hens vs ducks as well as goats, including city ordinances, general 
 care, space requirements, feeding, health, and 
 more.\n\nActivities:\n\n11am-Fire up oven, morning refreshments courtesy of 
 Arizmendi Bakery, and general farm work\n\n12pm-Interactive discussion of 
 raising hens and ducks in an urban area, with live examples of animals and 
 coops, including everything you need to know to get started and local 
 resources.   \n\n1pm -  Break for oven fired pizza, and other nutritious, 
 delicious food - and Solar Power Grooves ~   \n\n2pm - Heidi Kooy will join 
 us for an engaging discussion of her backyard dairy and fertilizer 
 operation with the help of one of her urban goats!  \n\nLate Afternoon-more 
 work and hangin out, conversatin, eatin and bein merry! \n\n As always, the 
 ovens will be  blazing and we'll provide the dough so bring some pizza 
 toppings, or some other  local, seasonal fare to share and compare at our 
 ultra-local potluck.    \n Also check out the farm and see appropriate 
 technology demos like solar ovens and dehydrators (if it's sunny), rocket 
 stove, compost toilet, pedal power, earthen structures and of course the 
 cob oven!    \n\nBring your own utensils if you got em, and musical 
 instruments, parlor tricks and special talents are always welcome too\n

LOCATION:Next to the athletic field at the School of the Arts and the Academy of 
 Arts and Sciences   555 Portola Dr. San Francisco. Enter campus via 
 O'Shaughnessy Blvd @ Portola. Close to 36, 44, 48, and 52 Muni lines.  From 
 the parking area on O'Shaughnessy, walk down the hill to the right towards 
 the athletic field.  Limited parking is available further down driveway at 
 loading dock, just keep driveway clear   and please do not park on the 
 grass.  We'll be on the farm the behind the bleachers across the field. See 
 ya there!
