DESCRIPTION:Free Training in Basic First Aid for Seizures, gun shot wounds and bleeding
traumas. SPEAKOUT, free first aid packets and free food - nourishment for
your mind and body.\n\n\nFREE MEDIC TRAINING FOR THE PEOPLE \n\nThis
project was partially inspired by the revelations of an Oakland Paramedic
investigator who blew the whistle on the denial of immediate medical
treatment for Oscar Grant at the Fruitvale BART station. \n\nOscar, like
many victims of police violence, did not receive immediate medical
treatment after he was shot by BART police. While Oscar’s friends on the
platform were demanding that the police call 911, BART police officer Tony
Pirone told them to “shut the fuck up” and refused to call 911 for over
20 minutes. \n\nUnfortunately, this is a common story in low-income and
communities of color--calling 911 does not guarantee an ambulance nor
adequate health care when paramedics arrive. Because of this inequality, we
have lost numerous loved ones unnecessarily. We know that 911 is a joke (as
the rap group Public Enemy said so long ago) and that our people have been
suffering from a lack of proper medical treatment. \n\nThe People’s
Community Medics has launched a project to work with our community in
taking what's most important into our hands – matters of our health and
safety. \n\nPlease join us for a FREE event Saturday, May 12th at 1:00 pm
at Arroyo Viejo Park located at 7701 Krause Street in East Oakland (near
Bancroft and 77th street). The day will include invaluable: \n\nEMERGENCY
FIRST AID TRAINING & free first aid packets\nSPEAKOUT - say what's on your
mind and get involved!\nFREE FOOD \n\nHope to see you there! \n\nFor more
