DESCRIPTION:OCCUPY SALTWORKS\nOccupy Cargill, Occupy DMB!Stop developers from paving
over the Bay!\nAPRIL 23, REDWOOD CITY - Members of OCCUPY REDWOOD CITY have
formed an autonomous action group called "OCCUPY SALTWORKS," a group
dedicated to halting the Saltworks development project proposed by DMB
Associates. The giant agribusiness Cargill has given DMB the authority to
develop Redwood City's former salt ponds.Occupy Saltworks opposes the
Saltworks development for a wide variety of reasons. Among their concerns
are: the negative impact the development will have on union jobs at the
Port of Redwood City; serious environmental risks related to flooding, sea
level rise, and earthquake liquefaction; the project's multiple violations
of smart growth principles; the ties members of city government like
 council member Rosanne Foust have to this for-profit development scheme;
and the economic and environmental damage the development will cause to the
lower income communities and communities of color of Redwood City. For a
detailed breakdown of Occupy Saltworks' concerns, a draft statement can be
read here.In honor of Earth Day weekend, Occupy Saltworks' first action
against Cargill and DMB will take place on Monday, April 23. Occupy
Saltworks has been endorsed by Occupy San Jose (OSJ) and is actively
looking for the endorsement from General Assemblies of other Bay Area
Occupy groups. Occupy Saltworks is committed to being a nonviolent direct
action group that aims to collaborate with other community groups and
concerned residents in Redwood City to stop the Saltworks development.WHEN:
APRIL 23 (MON). People will begin to gather at 3 PM, will rallies to begin
in earnest at 3:30. Those who want to speak out against Cargill, DMB, or
the City Council will start doing so at 4 PM.WHERE: DMB Associates' Redwood
City office: 1700 Seaport Blvd. Suite 200, Redwood City.WHAT: Protest and
