Sierra Leone:\n\nIn a deeply impoverished country where women rarely have
the opportunity to give birth in a hospital or under sterile conditions,
Nurse Mary has delivered over 3,000 babies without the loss of one mother
or child.\n\nIn Sierra Leone Nurse Mary has built a nation-wide network of
AAPDEP clinics, offices, nursing schools and self-reliance institutions in
every province of the country through the community based AAPDEP
organization that involves over 500 mothers, medical workers and community
members.\n\nThough Sierra Leone has vast natural resources including
diamonds, oil and bauxite, much of the population must subsist on less than
a dollar a day. To make sure that the Infant and Maternal Wellness Project
can benefit all women regardless of income, Nurse Mary and\nAAPDEP started
a cassava farm and fishing projects to raise resources for the clinics and
the community. In addition Ms Koroma created a nursing program that
recently celebrated its first graduating class.\n\nAAPDEP Tour Manager
Camilla Hippolyte explalned, “We are very excited to bring Nurse Mary to
the Tampa Bay Area. Nurse Mary is an inspiring and brilliant woman who has
built powerful programs on the grassroots level throughout Sierra Leone
addressing the very serious issue of maternal and infant
wellness.\n\n“What should have been a happy occasion, pregnancy and
childbirth has been a time of worry and sorrow for too long. Nurse Mary has
organized a movement to change that. \nWe want people to meet Nurse Mary
and we are raising money and support for her to be able to continue the
 work there."\n\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2012/03/31/18710471.php
