DESCRIPTION:People's Park Defense Week: Gardening, Teach-Ins, Food, Music, What-Ever
You Can\n\nDefend the plants and the urban wildlife environment. \n\nAs a
follow up to the damage done in winter, the UC intends to move in on
People's Park during the Spring recess. People are needed to defend the
park during 3/24 til 4/1 (the UC are the April Fools). \n\nThere must be
public input into Park improvements and maintenance. The UCs answer is to
peel the Park away, layer by layer until a lot is left - a lot for
development. \n\nSouth-East Berkeley is the least served in terms of park
space. Aside from Willard, there is only People's Park. \n\nPeople's
Park needs to be molded into a space which meets the challenges of climate
change: urban gardening, as well as exploring how to maintain an aesthetic
space with less water usage. \n\nThe social needs of the poor must be met
with a community coalition which supports progressive mental health, as
well as programs which remind the poor of their potential, showing people
possibilities other than jail.\n\nIssues of hygiene, water and lighting
need to be addressed. How can there be a 24 hr restroom in the Telegraph
area? The problem needs to be solved. The second water fountain should be
rebuilt. Any lighting plan should have an EIR to reduce light pollution
which causes stress to people and wildlife.\n
