 -- 6:00pm\n@ the Max House -- 1314 Ocean St.\n$5-10 donation. Dinner will 
 be available.\n\nIn recent months, many Dine' elders and families that are 
 resisting relocation at Black Mesa have been targeted by livestock 
 impoundments. Sheep, horses and cattle are the primary means of subsistence 
 for families on the land, so it's a great hardship to have them taken away. 
 In some cases the animals are immediately sold off or slaughtered, and in 
 other cases, families are able to purchase them back.\n\nOne small way that 
 we in Santa Cruz can offer support to families facing this harassment is by 
 raising money to help compensate for their losses-- thus, this movie night! 
 The film will be not about the Dine', but depicts the Sami, one of Europe's 
 last indigenous groups, whose struggle for cultural survival as reindeer 
 herders in a land rich in natural resources closely parallels that of the 
 Dine'.\n\nFilm: The Kautokeino Rebellion\n\nThe Kautokeino Rebellion by 
 Nils Gaup tells the true story of a Sami uprising in Norway during the 
 mid-19th century. It is written, directed, scored, and acted by Sami people 
 speaking their own language. The Sami are the indigenous reindeer-herding 
 people of Scandinavia, Finland, and the Russian Kola Peninsula.\n\nThere 
 will also be a brief slideshow about the Sami struggle against the Alta Dam 
 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alta_controversy] and present-day Sami 
 resistance to mining and logging operations.\n\nThis is a benefit for Dine' 
 (Navajo) families at Black Mesa, AZ who are resisting genocidal relocation 
 policies and coal strip-mining. \n\nFor more
