DESCRIPTION:HOE DOWN: Occupy Our Food Supply \nGLOBAL DAY OF GARDENING \n12 NOON on
MONDAY FEBRUARY 27th @ the CLOCKTOWER\n\nBring Your Overalls And Hoe, We're
Doin' Some Gardening!\n\n+Corporate control of our food systems has
increasingly harmed people, our ecosystems and our climate\n+We can control
our food supply by creating localized food systems that utilize fair,
ecological principles\n+United, our food movements can reach a scale
required to challenge the corporate food regime that has prioritized profit
over health and sustainability\n+To create healthy local food systems
globally, we must both create the alternatives we are calling for and
resist the corporate and political forces creating toxic, GMO, unhealthy
food\n+Local organic food systems hold more hope for meeting Santa Cruz's
food needs than corporate food regimes profiting from speculation and land
grabs for exports \nWe stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities and
communities around the world that are struggling against hunger,
exploitation, and unfair labor practices that benefit only
corporations\n+We all have to eat, and we want to eat local organic food.
\n\nOccupy Our Food Supply is seeking support. We're a coalition of
farmers, communities and activist who are reclaiming our food system from
corporate domination by re-purposing space in communities.\nUnited, we can
challenge the corporate food regime that prioritizes profit over health and
sustainability. Local, sustainable and organic food systems hold more hope
for meeting our food needs. \nOn February 27th, Noon at the Santa Cruz
Clocktower, we are taking a stand for food sovereignty. We believe small
farmers and local communities must be able to sustain themselves. We also
believe food produced through ecologically sustainable methods is a human
right. \nRight now, we are planning actions and building a network that
will pressure the dominant power structures by providing a sustainable
alternative. \nWhen the last parcel of arable land in an urban community is
about to be developed, it takes people power to defend it. When a small
farmer is bing sued by Monsanto for crosspollination, it takes people power
to defend them. \nWe are those people. We are seeking allies.\n
