DESCRIPTION:The Merced City Council recently gave final approval to the Central
Valley’s first anti-eviction law. The law seeks to stop evictions of
innocent tenants after foreclosure. It took effect several weeks ago.
Realtors have been trying to repeal the law but have so far been
unsuccessful.\n\nThis is a game changer for Merced tenants and the entire
community. Under the new law, tenants will be able to stay in their homes,
rather than being callously tossed into the street by banks that care
nothing about creating unnecessary homelessness, vacancy and
blight.\n\nCommunity members who are interested in the new law are welcome
to attend this educational forum on Tuesday, January 17 at 5:30 at the
Merced Arts Center, 645 W. Main Street, Merced, CA. Representatives from
Tenants Together and Central California Legal Services will be present to
answer questions and discuss the new law. There will also be fact sheets
for Merced tenants on their rights under the new law.\n\n
