DESCRIPTION:Join Transition Berkeley for a screening of DIRT! the Movie, narrated by
Jamie Lee Curtis. The movie takes us inside the Earth's most valuable and
unappreciated resource. The 20th century was a bad time for dirt with the
rise of devastating farming practices, clear-cutting and erosion, and
climate change. \n\nDIRT! tells the environmental, economic, social and
political impact soil has. It shares the stories of experts from all over
the world who are able to harness the power of a respectful and mutually
beneficial relationship with soil. The late Wangari Maathai shares her
eloquent and brilliant wisdom in the film along with Majora Carter of
Sustainable South Bronx, mycologist Paul Staments and many others including
Berkeley's own Edible Schoolyard. With wit and incisiveness, the filmmakers
give us the lowdown on soil and why we must protect and rebuild it. DIRT!
will change your notion of what dirt is. \n\nBring your questions for a
discussion after the movie with Saudra Wolf, permaculturist and leader of
the bioremediation group, and Urban Adamah, a Jewish urban farm and
 fellowship program.\n\nTime:	7pm - 9pm.\nLocation:	Ecology Center, 2530 San
Pablo Ave, near Dwight Way, Berkeley.\nCost:	$5 or donation (no one turned
 away for lack of funds).\nInfo:	510-548-2220 x233, erc@ecologycenter.org.\n
 	Wheelchair accessible.\n
