DESCRIPTION:This event takes place as the police, the servants of Wall Street and the
corporatocracy, in Sacramento, Oakland and across the nation are using park
and anti-homeless ordinances to brutally repress the Occupy Wall Street
protests in violation of the Constitution and the First Amendment.\n\nHobos
to Street People event set for 7 pm today\n\nFirst Occupy Sacramento
protesters appear in court\n\nby Dan Bacher\n\nTime Tested Books will be
sponsoring a great event, Hobos to Street People, today, October at 7 p.m.
Local photographer and artist Francisco Dominguez will be at the
event.\n\nHobos to Street People presents a social, cultural and political
history of Homelessness from the Great Depression to the present as
seenthrough the work of artists from Dorothea Lange, Rockwell Kent and
Fritz Eichenberg to contemporary artists Kiki Smith, Eric Drooker, Jos
Sances, David Bacon and local artist Francisco Dominguez. \n\nThere will
be a Power Point Presentation & Book Signing by author, Art Hazelwood, with
special guest speaker Shaka Curry of SAFEGROUND. \n \nHobos to Street
People is a touring exhibition that originated in San Francisco in 2008
and is currently on view through December 4, 2011 at the de Saisset Museum
Santa Clara University. \n\nThis event takes place as the police, the
servants of Wall Street and the corporatocracy, in Sacramento, Oakland and
across the nation are using park curfew, loitering and anti-homeless
ordinances to brutally repress the Occupy Wall Street protests in violation
of the Constitution and the First Amendment.\n\nTwenty Occupy Sacramento
demonstrators who were arrested on the first day of the occupation Oct. 6
made their first court appearance this morning at Sacramento Superior
Courthouse (720 9th St.). 79 have been arrested, in a gross violation of
their First Amendment rights, at Occupy Sacramento since Oct. 6.
\n\nPro-bono lawyers representing Occupy Sacramento postponed the cases
until November 3 to give the defense attorneys a chance to analyze the
court filings. \n\nMark Merin, Jeff Kravitz and other lawyers discussed a
possible lawsuit against the City of Sacramento against the city's
violation of protesters' First Amendment rights in a press conference held
at Cesar Chavez park on Monday. \n\n"The unlawful assembly charge is a
police or city-created crime. It cannot prevail in court," said civil
rights attorney Jeff Kravitz early Monday when he appeared with other pro
bono lawyers. He predicted the DA would not go forward with the charges,
and later Monday the DA confirmed it.\n\nDistrict Attorney Jan Scully said
she would not prosecute the people because no crime was committed, but the
City Attorney has chosen to prosecute the protesters on "curfew" and
"loitering" violations. \n \nTonight's event is *FREE. \n\n*Donations are
welcome to cover transportation costs for the author traveling from the bay
area. Any additional funds raised will be donated to SAFEGROUND.\n\nThe
