direct action are, how to prepare ourselves before, during and after and
how we can use nonviolent direct action to escalate the movement to
overthrow the Wall St 1% and build a better world. This training is for
anyone who wants to learn about taking effective direct action (or
supporting others). \n\nFacilitator: Nupur Modi has facilitated nonviolent
direct action and disobedience trainings--and coordinated actions-- in many
movements and campaign, from Free Tibet to the labor movement.
\n\n\n1:30-3:30: OCCUPYING THE INTERSECTIONS OF POWER: BUILDING ALLIANCE
FOR SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE \nThis interactive workshop will
provide a framework for dialogue about how identity, privilege and
institutional power impact our ability to build a grassroots movement. \n
\nFacilitator: Born and raised in Oakland, California, Ariel Luckey is a
facilitator and father whose performance and community work dances in the
crossroads of education, art and activism.
\n\narielluckey.com\n\n3:30-5:30: CONSENSUS MEETING & GENERAL ASSEMBLY
FACILITATION \nThis workshop is particularly for people who are or may help
with occupation general assembly meeting facilitation. All over the
country, people are flocking to the streets to join occupations demanding a
just system for the 99%. It’s an inspiring vision: thousands of people
participating in direct democracy, making decisions, having their voices
heard. And it’s a potential nightmare—thousands of ordinary Americans
being subjected to really bad, ponderous consensus meetings, fleeing in
frustration and anguish and ready to accept any tyranny over the prospect
of more long meetings! Consensus process can be wonderful—or terrible.
At it’s best, it can be empowering, creative and efficient. But for that
to happen, people need to understand and agree upon the process.
Facilitators need training and skill. And the group as a whole needs to
invest some trust in the facilitation team.\n\nStarhawk is a San Francisco
based activist, trainer, and author who had been involved in movements
against corporate capitalism for many years. \n\nPlease read this before
the workshop if possible: Short Consensus
