DESCRIPTION:In the United States, 2.4 million are locked up in prisons and jails, and
another 5 million under control of the criminal justice system. Almost 50
percent of those are African American males, who are 6.4 percent of the
total population.\n\nThe prison system and the death penalty represent the
“New Jim Crow” that carries systematic racism to uphold the capitalist
system.\n\nForty years ago, prisoners at Attica prison stood up to the
inhumane and racist conditions they suffered. They were defeated by a
bloody crackdown by the government that killed dozens of people. Though
they were defeated, it caused several important reforms in the prison
system.\n\nToday, prisoners are resisting being treated like animals.
People are joining the movement to abolish the death penalty after the
legal lynching of Troy Davis. Join a meeting and discussion about the
movement to end the criminal injustice system.\n\n
