DESCRIPTION:Join us for a day of appreciation for the indigenous people who have lived, 
 and those that still do, in California and have shared their knowledge of 
 the native plants of our region. We'll focus on acorns and have an acorn 
 processing demo as well as sample some acorn bread and acorn porridge. 
 We'll also look at other common edibles and medicinals you can grow or find 
 along the trail.\n\nActivities:\n\n11am-fire up oven, morning refreshments 
 courtesy of Arizmendi Bakery, and work in our native plant nursery.\n\n12pm 
 - Discussion of various wild foods that are commonly found in our area 
 including greens in the spring, fruits and berries in the summer, and nuts 
 and acorns in the fall. We'll also discuss some native medicines such as 
 mints, elderberries, mugwort and more.\n\n1pm - Acorn processing and 
 cooking demonstration. We'll go over the proper and ethical harvesting 
 techniques for acorns as well as processing them and leaching them to make 
 meal or flour for porridge, bread, and more. We'll also have samples of 
 acorn food to try.\n\n2pm-break for pizza, and other nutritious,delicious 
 food\n\n3-5pm - More wild food discussions, samples of food and beverages 
 and work in our native plant nursery.\n\nLate Afternoon-more work and 
 hangin out, conversatin, eatin and bein merry!\n\nAs always, the ovens will 
 be blazing and we'll provide the dough so bring some\npizza toppings, or 
 some other local, seasonal fare to share and compare at our\nultra-local 
 potluck.\n\nAlso check out the farm and see appropriate technology demos 
 like solar ovens and\ndehydrators (if it's sunny), rocket stove, compost 
 toilet, pedal power, earthen\nstructures and of course the cob 
 oven!\n\nBring your own utensils if you got em, and musical instruments, 
 parlor tricks and\nspecial talents are always welcome too!\n

LOCATION:Next to the athletic field at the School of the Arts and the Academy of 
 Arts and Sciences   555 Portola Dr. San Francisco. Enter campus via 
 O'Shaughnessy Blvd @ Portola. Close to 36, 44, 48, and 52 Muni lines.  From 
 the parking area on O'Shaughnessy, walk down the hill to the right towards 
 the athletic field.  Limited parking is available further down driveway at 
 loading dock, just keep driveway clear   and please do not park on the 
 grass.  We'll be on the farm the behind the bleachers across the field. See
