DESCRIPTION:Negro Hill MAAFA Ceremony ~ a sacred ceremony to bring dignity and respect
to the early California pioneers of Negro Hill, California, all are
welcome. White Attire is required to participate in the ceremony.
\n\n\nOriginally, Negro Hill, Placer County was established in 1848 by
people of African descent during the Gold Rush. Multicultural leaders from
the deeply religious abolitionists from the State of Massachusetts were
concerned with expanding civic responsibility, equal opportunity and
freedom for people of African Descent. \n\nIn 1856, Negro Hill, CA was a
regional center of the Gold Mining District. Black agriculture production
utilized the most pristine water supply in America to sustain the
foundation of a healthy regional economic community that attracted a
culturally diverse population in the region to include: Miwok, Mexican,
Chinese, Russian, Mormon, Chilean, Italian, German and people from the
African Diaspora. \n\nToday, remnants of systemic institutional racism
remain, our Negro Hill ~ MAAFA Ceremony is a sacred spiritual offering to
our elders and ancestors, MAAFA is a Kiswahili word that means terrible
occurrence. \n\nOur Negro Hill ~ MAAFA Ceremony will again bring global
attention to our efforts to establish equity and equal opportunity through
historical preservation of the contributions of people of African Ancestry
to Gold Rush California and our ongoing challenge to bring dignity and
respect to the early California pioneers of African descent who established
Negro Hill, California.\n\nTogether, we will replace the wicked demonic
word “Nigger” from the 36 grave markers, restore California State
Landmark #570 and establish an appropriate Negro Hill Memorial Monument
worthy of official recognition by the United States of America Federal
 Register of Historic Places. \n\n
