DESCRIPTION:We will begin the meeting with a study from \nOverturning the Culture of
Violence by Penny Hess of the African People's Solidarity Committee looking
at the origin of the wealth of the white/European world and the way forward
for peace and justice on the planet.\n\nAfter that, we will lay out the
work - and break into outreach teams - to build the events for A Day in
Solidarity with African People and the Uhuru Foods event - World Hunger:
Made the US on October 13th and 15th. \n\nOur event for A Day in Solidarity
with African People will be taking place on Thursday, October 13th at the
Humanist Hall in Oakland (390 - 27th St) featuring Omali Yeshitela, leader
and founder of the Uhuru Movement, Penny Hess, Chairwoman of the African
People's Solidarity Committee and Cephus "Uncle Bobby" Johnson of the Oscar
Grant Foundation (Oscar Grant's uncle).\n\nCome participate in this
campaign taking place from now until November and be a part of our outreach
and fundraising teams. \nWe will have an event in Oakland but YOU can build
an event anywhere - in San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, Eugene,
Seattle, Southern California, etc. \n\nAs we see with the rebellions in
London sparked by the police murder of another African man, African
community in the UK as in the US is bearing the brunt of the economic
crisis - with an ever-widening income gap, massive unemployment and
escalating police violence. It's time to take the pledge of solidarity and
make a commitment to reparations to the African community. \n\nThe system
isn't going to solve the problems it has created for the African community.
\nWe support the Uhuru Movement in building African self-reliance programs
that are in the interest of all of humanity:\n\nEconomic development
institutions to create community commerce \nCommunity gardens to provide
access to healthy food \nFreedom schools that offer community-based,
meaningful curriculum \nIndependent media like Uhuru News, Uhuru Radio and
The Burning Spear Newspaper\n\nContact oakland@uhurusolidarity.org or call
