DESCRIPTION:The Portland-based artist Harrell Fletcher is the fall Capp Street Project
artist in residence. This will be his second appearance related to the
Wattis's three-year program The Magnificent Seven. It represents the
culmination of a project in which Fletcher's friend and graduate student
Travis Souza walks the proposed Los Angeles to San Francisco route of the
California High Speed Rail Line. At one point he will traverse his family's
farmland in the Central Valley.\n\nAlong the way Souza collected the ideas
and opinions of the farmers affected by the project, thus "recovering" data
that would otherwise perhaps not exist about the relationships that exist
today between the urban and the rural, the need for food and the need for
transit. Fletcher is teaching a course this semester in the Graduate
Program in Fine Arts, and he traveled with his students to meet Souza for
different stages of the walk to collaborate in planned and unplanned
 ways.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2011/08/23/18688526.php
