DESCRIPTION:How the Godless Can Create Meaning in Their Lives\n\n \n\nEast Bay
Atheists’ August meeting features a talk by Dr. Eric Maisel, author of
The Atheist Way, on how people can create meaning in their lives without
god(s).\n\n \n\nAlthough among the most important of human phenomena,
meaning is also among the most difficult to “get a handle on.” This
helps explain why it is so rarely studied.\n\n \n\nHow much meaning do you
actually need? Rather than waiting for meaning to arrive or seeking meaning
somewhere “out there,” how can you go about making meaning? What can
you do when meaning vanishes?\n\n \n\nDr. Maisel calls his new philosophy
Noimetics. It breaks with traditional philosophies and religions by
identifying meaning as a psychological experience that can be self-created,
rather than as a reward for correctly aligning with gods or the
universe.\n\n \n\nNoimetics offers anyone who has found traditional
philosophies and religions lacking in substance and logic a more accurate
view of human reality, an integrative vision of the connections between
meaning and value, and concrete strategies for increasing the experience of
meaning.\n\n \n\nDerived from noima, Greek for meaning, Noimetics is an
integrative philosophy that studies human subjectivity, human aims, human
values—the range of human experience—and the part that meaning plays in
our experience of life.\n\n \n\nPlease join us for this talk and the
ensuing discussion.\n\n \n\nAfterwards we will go to dinner at King Dong
Restaurant, 2429 Shattuck Ave. (near Haste) in Berkeley. Please join
 us.\n\n \n\nWhen: Sunday, August 28th, 1:30 - 3:30 PM\n\n \n\nLocation:
Berkeley Main Library, 3rd Floor Meeting Room, 2090 Kittredge St., One
Block From Downtown Berkeley BART\n\n \n\nBART Access: From the downtown
Berkeley BART Station, walk 1.5 blocks south on Shattuck Avenue, then turn
right on Kittredge. The library is a half block down the street on the
left.\n\n \n\nParking: The city parking lot at Allston & Harold Way, a
short block from the library, is $5 for the entire day on Sunday. If you
don’t mind walking, take University to MLK, turn right and then instead
of proceeding left on Allston to the parking lot, turn right. In several
blocks you will see parking on the side streets.\n\n \n\nInformation: Larry
