DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Nicola \nntorbett@seminaryofthestreet.org or 510-225-8561\n\nThe
devastating effects of our current economy are clear, but what would it
mean to get serious about doing something different? This experiential,
popular-education style class will involve\nl courageously and
compassionately examining our own economic practices and their impacts on
ourselves and others\n2 learning about and dreaming up alternatives to
corporate capitalism and state-administered socialism\n3 engaging
together in experimentation toward alternative practices\nThis is not a
distanced, purely academic study of economics but instead one that will ask
what love has to do with it. The course will ask that we look honestly at
ourselves, share with each other in a safe and compassionate environment,
and explore our longings for alternative practices. We will strive to
create a judgment-free zone, since we believe that economic practices
change as a result of our own longings for community and justice, not as a
result of moralistic browbeating.\n \nOur sources of inspiration will
include faith traditions, Gandhian economics, solidarity economics,
liberation economics from the Black Panthers, and more.\n \nWe will attend
to historical injustices that have resulted in inequalities in current
economic situations along race, sex, and class lines and consider how these
impact our practices.\n\nAt WORSHP House, 1724 Filbert Street, Oakland, CA
 \n\nTuesdays \nSeptember 6-December 13\n6-8pm\n\n
