 California, 1769-1901 by Laurence H. Shoup. A reception and book signing 
 will be at 6 PM. A presentation  entitled  "California's Rebellious Roots: 
 Lessons for Today" will be given by the author at 7 PM.  Q&A/discussion 
 will follow presentation.\n\nTake a trip back in time to the state's 
 earliest years and discover the untold history of the working class, 
 minorities, immigrants, Native Americans and other groups struggling to 
 assert their human rights against the power of an entrenched ruling class. 
 Their numerous organized and unorganized rebellions from the Mission era to 
 the 1901 general strike on the San Francisco waterfront altered history and 
 taught valuable lessons that are still relevant today.\n\nSponsored by the
