DESCRIPTION:United by Love, Divided by Law: How DOMA Impacts Same-Sex Binational
Couples\n\nDOMA – the Defense of Marriage Act, that was signed into law
by President Clinton in 1996, has impacted the everyday lives of many LGBT
Americans! The panel today will lead a discussion on the immigration
repercussions of DOMA, and how it impacts the lives of same sex binational
couples and their families in their ability to stay together in this
country. \n\nNow that President Obama and his administration has declared
that they will not be defending DOMA in court and have indicated that they
think DOMA section (3) is unconstitutional, how does this impact same sex
binational couples and their efforts to get congress to support equal
immigration rights for same sex couples? At the same time, there are
several bills that have been introduced in Congress that would rectify the
situation. These bills are the (1) Uniting American Families Act, and the
 (2) Reuniting Families Act, as well as the much anticipated Comprehensive
Immigration Reform which will include LGBT Families.\n\nJoin
Out4Immigration, Attorney Lavi Soloway (Stop The Deportations Project),
Attorney Ilona Turner (National Center for Lesbian Rights), Judy Rickard
(Author, Torn Apart) and hear stories from Same-Sex Binational Couples as
they discuss this very important topic!\n
