pm,\nfollowed by the film at 7:30 pm, followed by a discussion after the
 film.\n\nThe Truth about Climate Change\nby David Attenborough\n\nRenown
naturalist and BBC broadcaster, David Attenborough, undertakes a personal
journey to discover how global warming is changing the planet that he knows
so well. Examining the evidence for this confusing phenomenon, he finds
out what’s causing it and whether humankind is to blame. He discovers
that the Earth is warming at an unprecedented rate, far beyond any normal
allowance for cyclical fluctuation. He then asks the question: “What is
the future of our world?” Sir David investigates some of the possible
scenarios for the future, including rising sea levels, insect plagues, and
an increase in diseases. From hurricane Katrina to glacier ice crashing
into the sea, he discovers that we are in a race against time. Starving
polar bears as well as the first direct victim of global warming, the
recently extinct golden toad, demonstrate that the danger for humanity may
not be far behind. Extraordinary phenomena have taken place in recent
times; Hurricane Katrina, the heat wave of 2003, polar bears swimming in
search of ice, and vast swarms of insects enveloping an African village.
People around the world are having to adapt their way of life as the
climate changes. The Inuit in the Arctic can no longer hunt the way they
need to; Pacific Island inhabitants are forced to move as their homes
disappear beneath the waves; and homes in Siberia are slowly sinking into
the permafrost. Sir David delivers his message in a balanced and
unimposing way. These changes are already in motion whatever we do now,
but Sir David believes that we may be able to act to prevent a catastrophe.
He explores the personal and technological changes we can make to avert
catastrophe.\n\nWheelchair accessible around the corner at 411 28th
