 7:00-9:00 PM\nwith the show: \n \n \nThe ABAiR (Arts
Benicia Artist in Residence Program) is a unique amalgam of an interactive
installation process and art exhibition. For the installation component,
Arts Benicia is providing three artists, Claudia Chapline, Theresa Muñoz
and Thomas Stanton, with an opportunity to work out installation ideas in a
2,000 square foot space over a period of three weeks. It is not uncommon
for artists doing site-specific installation have a brief time to install,
resulting in inadequate opportunities to work in the actual space. With
ABAiR, the artists will have time to attune themselves with the space as
they work through their respective processes. July 7 – 17,
Thursday-Sunday from 12:00-5:00 pm, artists will be present in the gallery
working on their installations, and the public is welcomed to visit the
gallery and interact with them as they work.\n\nClaudia Chapline is an
international artist and writer who has been creating installations and
performances for 35 years. Chapline’s utilizes drawings, paintings,
photographs and objects created in response to subjects and places in her
installations. \n\nTheresa Muñoz received an MA/BA in Environmental and
Visual Studies from Harvard University and an MFA in Product Design from
Stanford University. She teaches classes on eco-art and her work is
produced with non-toxic, eco-friendly materials. Munoz works from the sky
down to the ground up, and will be utilizing large pieces of dyed silk, and
drift wood to create her installation.\n\nThomas Stanton has worked in
ceramics, painting and sound to create his art. His installation will
utilize ambient noise, in an attempt to produce one overall sensation,
through the use of multiple media rather than showcasing a singular point
of view, either conceptually or materially.\n\nThe artists’ installations
will be completed on July 21st, and the exhibition will be on view until
August 14th complimented by a variety of public programs. On July 23,
2011at 7:00 Arts Benicia will host a reception for the artists to celebrate
the completion of their installations.\n\n\nThe ABAiR Project has been
generously sponsored by Olson Realty, Inc. \n\nArts Benicia, a non-profit
visual arts organization, gallery and arts education center, is located at
991 Tyler St., #114 in Benicia’s historic Arsenal district. The gallery
is open from 12 to 5 Thursday through Sunday. For more information
