DESCRIPTION:LAWRENCE LESSIG ON THE DESTRUCTIVE EFFECTS OF CORPORATE CASH IN
ELECTIONS\n\nMovie: How is childhood obesity related to campaign donations?
With entertaining animated graphics and striking one-word slides, Harvard
Center for Ethics Director Lawrence Lessig narrates his new presentation on
the crisis in our democracy, illustrating the connection between special
interest money and critical policy decisions -- and showing why past
promises of reform have gone nowhere. Lessig proposes to save democracy
with his novel "Grants & Franklins" project for publicly funded electoral
campaigns.\n\nAction Agenda: What can we do about unlimited, anonymous
corporate spending on political campaigns? This 40 minute video will leave
plenty of time for a real discussion. Nancy Neff will give an update on
proposed federal and state laws for disclosure and public campaign funding.
There is one with an actual chance of passing: AB 1148, the California
DISCLOSE Act, that will show the voters who really pays for political
ads.\n\nNancy Neff is a board member, Northern California Outreach
Coordinator, and Palo Alto Area Coordinator of the California Clean Money
Campaign, which sponsors the California DISCLOSE Act.\n\nFREE and open to
all. Donations requested. Wheelchair accessible.\n\nPresented by Peninsula
Peace and Justice Center & the Action Council of the Unitarian Universalist
 Church.\n https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2011/06/13/18681801.php
